About the Deaf Community
The Deaf Cultural Centre is dedicated to providing a central
meeting space for community members, deaf events and already has a
variety of groups who meet here to socialise, explore aspects of their
culture and to have fun!
A community is where people are drawn together as a result of experiencing and sharing common attitudes, interests and goals. This creates a feeling of fellowship with others. This is especially true for Deaf people who feel most comfortable in the company of other Deaf people because for them, they share a common cultural heritage, identity and language. Hearing people who wish to learn about the Deaf community or to learn British Sign Language are welcomed.
The Deaf Community has many members who share similar aims and experiences but this can be broken down into different sub-groups. Examples are younger people, ethnic minorities, gay and lesbian and those interested in religion or sports and so on. Look on the left to find out which group are running and click on the relevant link to find out more.
If there is a group which is not available and you would like to set it up, please contact us at the Deaf Cultural Centre.
