Birmingham Deaf Diversity Group

This group has been recently formed following a merger between the Deaf Asian Group and the LGBT Group. Following discussions between these 2 groups, it was felt that their joint objectives could be met more efficiently using the available volunteers by merging.

Their aim is to provide for the needs of the diverse sub-cultures within the Deaf Community and to foster mutual understanding between people with different backgrounds. They raise money to fund projects in developing countries where Deaf youngsters are living in deprived conditions. They also aim to raise awareness in the general population of the range of cultures within the Deaf Community, particularly marginalised groups and to address isolation by holding a range of social events at the Deaf Cultural Centre.

In July 2009 they held their first event which resulted in the best attended event held at the Deaf Cultural Centre since its opening. This was the first ever International Deaf Cultural Party which was attended by over 200 people from around the UK.

During the evening, a range of entertainment was provided such as Indian Dance, various international costumes were worn by party-goers and the buffet included food from around the globe. Click here to have a look at the event photos!
