Leicester Deaf Over 50s Group Visit

18 May 2010

Deaf people from the Leicester over 50s Club had a day trip to Birmingham on Wednesday 5th May, where they visited the Deaf Cultural Centre and spent the day with Birmingham's 50+ Group, catching up with friends and enjoying a game or 2 of Bingo!

This was arranged by the Birmingham Deaf Community Group to return the hospitality that Leicester Deaf Club had shown our older deaf people when they visited them last year.

33 of them were able to come and it proved to be a great opportunity for friends to meet up again and share their news. Leicester brought a lot of luck with them as by the end of the bingo sessions, they had accumulated winnings of approximately £500!

The Deaf Cultural Centre are hoping this exchange with Leicester, and a similar one planned with Derby, is going to be a regular feature, as it was in previous times, and they can re-ignite stronger links with the deaf neighbours.

Robin Ash, Community Development Manager, said "It was great to see such a lively day taking place in the hall with lots of chatter and catching up with old friends and making new ones. This really demonstrates exactly what the Deaf Cultural Centre is for".
