As part of the Deaf Cultural Centre's
ongoing Deaf Arts Project, the appointed Arts Officer, Mary-Jayne
Taylor, has been working with Deafinitely Theatre and Black Country
Touring to bring an exciting and new deaf play to the West Midlands.
The
new play by Deafinitely Theatre, which is written by Andrew Muir and
direcred by founder, Paula Garfield, follows a number of inspirational
workshops that Paula ran with local Deaf people throughout the West
Midlands, visiting the local Clubs in Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall.
Ideas and stories from these workshops have been developed and
implemented into Gold Dust, which is being classed as a 'play for
everyone'.
Description of Gold Dust:
An old man
dies leaving behind a son who never really knew him, but as the son
holds the ashes close to his heart, he begins to understand more about
the man he called Dad. A funny and moving play about a father and son
who found it difficult to communicate at the best of times, but when one
is deaf and the other hearing, it made it almost impossible.
Gold
Dust opens on Friday 15th July, 2011 at the Deaf Cultural Centre. There
are 2 performances taking place on the same day, 1pm and again at
7:30pm. This show will be repeated on other dates at venues across the West Midlands.
The new play is accessible for both deaf and hearing audiences.
Tickets: £5/£3 concession for under 18s and OAPs.
